Hike & Fly paragliding course in Savoie

Fancy experiencing paragliding in a different way by combining mountain walking with free flight? Over five days, you’ll set off on foot to some exceptional take-off spots; you’ll learn how to manage your energy, your kit and your timing whilst hiking, and you’ll enjoy flights in a spirit that’s at once sporty, relaxed and committed.

Walk, take off, fly: the mountains at their most liberating

What is the Hike & Fly course?

The Hike & Fly paragliding course is designed for a combination of walking and flying, i.e. a sequence of hiking up to a launch site followed by a take-off under supervised guidance.

This course is a gateway to a more mobile and mountain-oriented way of flying. It isn’t very technical in terms of paragliding: a Level 2 qualification with a minimum of 20 flights is sufficient; however, you must have your own equipment.
The idea is not just to fly, but to learn how to prepare a complete outing in alpine terrain, from carrying your gear to take-off, in a format where everyone gets to fly. This approach fits perfectly with the essence of Hike & Fly: less assistance, more terrain awareness, and a much more immersive experience than on a traditional course.

The Hike & Fly course programme

5 days of trail hiking and flying in the Alps

The Hike & Fly course runs over 5 days. The principle is simple: each day, you hike up to one or more take-off sites, then fly back down. The course is therefore based on a comprehensive hike-and-fly approach, in which physical effort, managing lightweight kit, route selection and the timing of take-off are all integral parts of the learning process.

2 specially qualified accompanying instructors

The course is led by two instructors from the Aiguebelette Parapente school, who will bring a great dynamic to the group: Tanguy Renaud-Goud is ranked in the Red Bull X-Alps 2023 and 2025, with a world Hike and Fly record set in 2024, whilst Stéphane Angenieux has been a qualified high-mountain guide since 2018 and is a DEJEPS-certified instructor. Impressive technical performances are expected in both trail running and paragliding.

Who is this Hike & Fly course for?

The Hike & Fly course is aimed at pilots who have already started to develop their independence and who want to expand their practice into the mountains without engaging in extreme flying. A Level 2 qualification with at least 20 flights is required. This course is for pilots who are already comfortable in calm conditions, capable of managing their equipment and drawn to a more physical aspect of paragliding.
It is therefore an ideal option for hikers, pilots who enjoy days in the mountains, those who want to give their flying a greater sense of purpose, and anyone seeking a freer, lighter and more committed way of flying.

Mandatory check of personal equipment

This course requires you to have your own lightweight kit suitable for carrying, including at least a personal reversible harness. Your kit will be subject to a mandatory check; please do not hesitate to contact the office to discuss this before you arrive for the course. This rule contributes to the overall rigour of the course and the priority given to safety, both in terms of equipment and supervision.

Why choose this Hike & Fly course in Savoie?

Choosing the Hike & Fly course means opting for a programme with a distinct identity, very different from a traditional paragliding course. You’re not just coming to string together flights: you’ll learn to plan a complete outing, carry your kit, read the terrain, manage your energy levels and make take-off the culmination of a proper ascent. It’s a more independent, more mountain-focused approach that often leaves a deeper personal impression.
The course is also led by highly qualified instructors specialising in this discipline: Tanguy Renaud-Goud, a top-level Hike & Fly competitor, and Stéphane Angenieux, a high-mountain guide.
